Finally……. Atlanta flavor that fits your style! Sweet Auburn Bistro is the first major restaurant to open its doors as part of the resurgence of one of the most special streets in American history.
Concentrated along a short mile and a half of Auburn Avenue, the Sweet Auburn Historic District reflects the history, heritage and achievements of Atlanta's African Americans. The name “Sweet Auburn” was coined by civil rights activist, and historian John Wesley Dobbs. It was on this street that many African Americans successfully established businesses, thriving congregations, and important social organizations and welcomed many famous entertainers including BB King, the Four Tops and Gladys Knight.
Sweet Auburn was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976 and later the Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC) was formed to turn the trend around, starting with houses surrounding the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and working outward.
Atlanta’s most famous son, Dr. King evoked the concept of a “table of brotherhood” the essence of which is captured at Sweet Auburn Bistro. Located between Centennial Park and the King Center, we proudly welcome tourists from around the world as well friends from around the corner.
The patrons of Auburn Avenue are what helped to create the history. Now, the renaissance continues with you. Open 7 days a week, Executive Chef, Glenn Law and the staff look forward to your patronage. We invite you to enjoy what we aptly call “New South” cuisine and welcome you to become a part of allowing the legacy to live again.
